OUR HORSES
Each of these horses have stories, just like us. They no longer have halters to wear or boundaries to be concerned about. We figure they have had enough. They are free. Free to live the rest of their lives the best they can and die with dignity and happiness when they are ready.
Please read on to meet some of these horses and learn their stories.
J.D.: A beautiful black gelding, very much his own being. Nine years old, he came to us because he was no longer wanted. His halter had not ever been taken off, and was grown into his face a good inch and a half. Kote Lotah cut it off with a knife within a few minutes of his landing on this soil. One year later the indentation the halter made has almost healed, but not quite, a reminder of where he had been. He was being kept in a small pipe corral; a family member found him and connected us. J.D. is a real sweetheart and gives and takes all the affection he can.
TWO BONES: A huge brown and white Quarter Horse, 31 years old. Bones is a sweet old horse that lived on the side of a hill. He got arthritis in his legs, and wasn't wanted anymore. Sometimes he walks, and sometimes he just stands around, but is always ready for a loving human hand and a treat. He has to come by the ranch house, so he always stops and says hello for anyone to see.
MIDNIGHT: A black mustang mare out of the Nevada wild herd, papers and all. She is nine years old, abandoned by her owner. She was bought at an auction when she was a year old. Her original owner put her in a steel barred corral 10 by 10, came by once a month to ride and see her, and then never came at all, because the owner went away to college. The family contacted us, being Indians, and told us about Midnight's situation. They brought Midnight by and that did it, she acts like she's been here all her life. Midnight has emotions and carries them on her shoulder. She loves to be hugged, and she loves to be the boss.
HERSHEY: a bay Quarter Horse mare, 23 years old, Hershey had last worked as a therapeutic lesson horse for children and people with disabilities. She started getting old and sore and couldn't continue working, and needed a place to retire. Everyone loves her, and she especially loves all the children. Her name says it all.
More stories coming since we have acquired ten horses at the present time. Wait till you hear the story of the two brothers who were sentenced to death...
